Hotel Mottainai is an art gallery designed as a series of pop-up hotel rooms you can stay at, with the aim to repurpose unused office space throughout Canberra. Our temporary ‘installations’ are curated by a collective of local artists, designers and makers to create an economy of kindness.

 Our first gallery at 13 London Circuit is an immersive art space, fitted out in re-purposed materials, second-hand, donated and recycled furniture. Rooms feature carefully selected artwork from local artists and creators that can be purchased.

All of our collaborators have engaged in a cyclical economy, barter system or have made pro-bono contributions.

All profits generated from the accommodation fee go to the YWCA Canberra, a charity that tackles the challenges surrounding homelessness and fosters the belief that everyone deserves safe and affordable accommodation.

The concept calls attention to empty space in an age of homelessness and escalating house prices. Recycling in an age of excess. Art in an age of disconnection. All powered by the strength of
community mobilisation.
